Benfica rekindles interest in Carlos Álvarez from Levante.

Benfica is once again targeting Carlos Álvarez, the 22-year-old Spanish winger who is shining at Levante and reigniting hope among the club’s fans for a signing that could revolutionize the team’s attack. Although there are currently no official negotiations, interest in the Spanish prospect is more alive than ever, according to the newspaper ElGolDigital, which reports that Benfica is closely monitoring the player.

In the summer of 2025, Benfica had already attempted to secure Álvarez’s signing, having put a proposal of between 15 and 18 million euros on the table. However, Levante halted the deal, demanding the amount of the release clause, set at 25 million euros, a figure that stymied the ambitions of the Eagles at the time. Now, with the market set to open again, the scenario could undergo a decisive turnaround.

Carlos Álvarez has a contract with Levante until 2027, but the Spanish club is determined to extend the agreement and increase the release clause to 35 million euros. If no agreement is reached for the renewal, Levante is preparing to include the winger on the list of players for immediate sale, a strategy that also addresses delicate financial issues. Sevilla holds 30% of the rights to a future transfer, a percentage that expires on December 31, 2026, which means Levante may prefer to negotiate now to avoid losing that lucrative share.

“Álvarez? We are clear that we are a selling club. We should fear not selling more than selling. No player is above the club. We are not afraid to sell. If offers come in that please all parties, we will accept and look for alternatives,” said Héctor Rodas, Levante’s technical director, in an interview with the newspaper As, leaving the door wide open for the winger’s departure.

This financial and sporting situation opens a window of opportunity for Benfica, which considers Álvarez one of its top targets to strengthen its squad. The winger finished last season with three goals and one assist in 30 games, a drop compared to the previous season—2024/25—where he recorded seven goals and 12 assists in 43 matches. Álvarez stands out for his versatility, able to play on both flanks, preferably on the right, and even as a second striker, characteristics that fit into the offensive philosophy of the team led by the Benfica SAD.

With Levante willing to negotiate and Benfica keeping a close eye, the market could bring an explosive conclusion to this transfer, which promises to shake up Portuguese and Spanish football. The question that remains is: is Benfica willing to invest the required amount to bring in a young talent with proven ability and the potential to be a decisive player in the new Benfica era? The summer promises answers and, certainly, a lot of excitement for Benfica fans.
