The Danish Football Federation quickly came forward to assure that the player is conscious and recovering “well, given the circumstances.” The national team’s doctor, Morten Boesen, who was responsible for saving Eriksen’s life in 2021, confirmed that the midfielder walked off the field on his own and that the implanted pacemaker reacted as expected. “He was briefly unconscious but regained consciousness very quickly. We are in continuous contact with him and the hospital doctors to carry out tests to clarify the cause of this incident,” Boesen explained.

The captain of Denmark, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, witnessed the collapse and described the moment to TV2: “I saw Christian fall and everyone reacted quickly and with respect. It was a huge shock, but the most important thing is that he is okay.” The players from both teams formed a protective circle around Eriksen while the medical staff attended to him.

Brian Riemer, the Danish coach, highlighted the unity demonstrated by the players and the importance of supporting the midfielder during this difficult time: “Christian is doing well, he sent greetings to his teammates and now it is crucial that we stand united, just as we showed on the pitch, to provide him with the necessary support.”

Remember that in June 2021, Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s match against Finland at Euro 2020, being saved thanks to immediate cardiac resuscitation. He was then fitted with an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD), which prevented him from playing in Serie A due to Italian regulations. After leaving Inter Milan, he returned to English football, playing for Brentford and then for Manchester United, where he won the EFL Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024. He currently represents Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga.

This new incident raises concerns about the midfielder’s health once again, but the swift medical intervention and his current condition offer a glimmer of hope for Danish fans and the football world.
