Iga Świątek maintains her dominance at Roland Garros by securing a place in the round of 16, with a hard-fought yet decisive victory over Magda Linette, winning in straight sets of 6-4. The Polish champion, who has already claimed four titles in Paris, confirmed her status as the favorite despite some fluctuations in her game, particularly on a surface where she feels at home and commands with authority.

The match began with Świątek dropping her serve early on, giving some hope to compatriot Linette, who had come off an impressive victory over Jelena Ostapenko, her “career assassin.” However, Linette was unable to capitalize on the advantage and ended up losing her serve twice in quick succession, allowing Świątek to regain control of the match. Despite a new break against her, the former world number one showcased her quality at crucial moments, regaining the lead when the score was tied at 4-4. In the second set, the Warsaw player displayed complete confidence, achieving a double break that sealed a virtually uncontested victory.

Świątek’s next opponent will be Marta Kostyuk, the Madrid champion and one of the most effective clay court players this season, who eliminated Viktorija Golubic with a score of 6-4, 6-3. This clash promises to be intense, pitting two rising young talents against each other, ready to battle for glory in Paris.

In the women’s category, special mention goes to Mirra Andreeva, who confirmed her talent by defeating Marie Bouzkova 6-4, 6-2, and is now awaiting the winner of the match between Karolína Muchová and Jil Teichmann.

In the men’s draw, Argentine Thiago Agustín Tirante suffered an unexpected defeat against Pablo Carreño Busta, who avenged compatriot Alejandro Davidovich Fokina by eliminating the young South American in four sets. On the other hand, Andrey Rublev, always solid, defeated Nuno Borges with tight scores of 7-5, 7-6(2), 7-6(2), in a match that lasted nearly three hours and showcased his resilience and technical quality.

Roland Garros continues to unveil exciting matchups and to solidify Świątek’s reign, who shows no signs of slowing down in her quest for a fifth title. The coming days promise epic battles, with the elite of world tennis fighting for access to the decisive stages of the tournament.
