Paul Seixas, the young prodigy of French cycling, is set to shake the sports world with his debut in the Tour de France at the age of 19 — a feat not seen in over four decades! With all of France holding its breath, this emerging talent promises to end the national drought of victories that has lasted since 1985, the year Bernard Hinault claimed his last title in the most iconic race of world cycling.

The CMA CGM Decathlon cyclist revealed in an official video that he will be participating in this summer’s Tour de France, confirming expectations that place him as the greatest French hope to conquer the premier cycling event. Seixas is no ordinary athlete: he has already overshadowed legends like Tadej Pogačar, finishing second in the prestigious Strade Bianche and Liège-Bastogne-Liège, in addition to becoming the youngest winner of the legendary Flèche Wallonne.

“It’s a childhood dream coming true,” confessed Seixas, a versatile rider with exceptional climbing and time trial skills. “I’m only 19, but age is neither a barrier nor an excuse.”

The pressure on the shoulders of this young Frenchman is immense, especially after four decades of disappointments. From Thibaut Pinot to Julian Alaphilippe, many promising talents have failed to bring glory back to France, often being surpassed by rivals with more powerful teams and robust financial backing.

But the structure supporting Seixas is different. The partnership between sports giant Decathlon and transportation multinational CMA CGM has created a French team with clear ambitions: to win the Tour de France in the next five years. Dominique Serieys, CEO of the team, does not hide his confidence in the young rider: “Paul is among the best in the world and deserves to be in the biggest race on the calendar. He will approach the Tour with humility, but with a learning mindset and a genuine ambition to achieve the best possible result.”

This year, Seixas’s talent shines even more brightly. In addition to being the youngest to win a stage of the WorldTour at the Tour of the Basque Country, the French prodigy is set to enter the Tour de France younger than Pogačar, who made his debut at 21 and won, or even than Hinault himself, who was 23 at his debut.

Seixas is not joking around: “The results I have achieved give me a lot of confidence. I am going to the Tour with ambitious goals, not just to get to know it. I want to fight for the best overall classification possible.”

Before the big challenge in July — with the start scheduled for Barcelona on July 4 — Paul Seixas will participate in the Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes in June, followed by a series of competitions in Canada before the world championships and the Tour of Lombardy.

If this young Frenchman manages to make history, a new era for Gallic cycling may be dawning, with a champion ready to return the throne to France. The country is in suspense, and the cycling world is watching closely: Paul Seixas is ready to revolutionize the Tour de France.
