Estêvão Out for the Season and Uncertain for the World Cup: Chelsea on High Alert!
Chelsea has just lost one of its most promising young talents for the remainder of the season, in news that has left fans in shock and the club’s future hanging in the balance. Callum McFarlane, the interim manager of the “blues,” confirmed on Friday that Estêvão, the Brazilian star of the squad, will not return to the pitch until the end of the season. Worse still: his participation in the 2026 World Cup is completely in doubt!
The serious injury occurred in the home defeat against Manchester United, where Estêvão suffered an almost complete tear of the right hamstring muscle—the so-called “nightmare injury” for any athlete. McFarlane did not hide his concern but assured that the club will stand by the young winger during his recovery. “Unfortunately, Estêvão will not play for us again this season. He will be sidelined for some time. We are here to support him,” said the coach.
The uncertainty surrounding the Brazilian’s return to action before the World Cup is a significant blow for the national team, where Estêvão has already secured a prominent place at just 19 years old with impressive numbers: 11 international appearances and five goals. Signed in 2025 from Palmeiras under the guidance of Abel Ferreira, the young talent quickly became a key player for both Carlo Ancelotti, Chelsea’s coach, and Brazil. The World Cup, which is fast approaching, places Brazil in Group C, with matches scheduled for June 13 against Morocco, June 20 against Haiti, and June 24 against Scotland. The question now is whether Estêvão will be fit to represent the national colors.
In addition to this concerning setback, McFarlane also spoke about the recent upheaval in the “blues” coaching staff. Following Liam Rosenior’s departure, McFarlane took over the role on an interim basis and revealed that he had maintained direct contact with the former coach on the day of his dismissal. “I spoke with him on the phone on Wednesday. He was doing well; it was a good conversation. I have a lot of respect for Liam; I didn’t know him before he came to the club, and he welcomed me brilliantly. I have a great relationship with him and I’m devastated that it didn’t work out,” he confessed.
As for the upcoming challenge, the FA Cup semi-final against Leeds, scheduled for this Sunday at Wembley at 3:00 PM, the coach expressed caution but hopefulness. “João [Pedro] and Cole [Palmer] trained; they are in good condition. We still don’t know if they can play against Leeds; we will assess them and make a decision. They will train tomorrow, so we are hopeful,” McFarlane revealed, leaving a hint of optimism amid so many uncertainties.
This scenario places Chelsea in a delicate situation, where Estêvão’s recovery could be decisive for the immediate future of both the club and the Brazilian national team. The injury of the young prodigy casts a shadow over the plans for the final stretch of the season and the much-anticipated World Cup, leaving everyone to wonder: will Estêvão be able to recover in time to shine on the biggest stages of world football? The answer, for now, remains shrouded in mystery.
