Barcelona on alert: Uncertain future of out-of-form forward

FC Barcelona is facing a true dilemma regarding the future of Ferran Torres, a forward who has recently been far from his best. The young Spanish player is going through a difficult phase, struggling to score goals or make a significant impact on games. This situation has sparked a wave of speculation about his future, especially with the Catalan club planning to strengthen their attacking line in the upcoming transfer window and renew the contract of veteran Robert Lewandowski.

According to information released by SPORT, Barcelona’s management is torn between two options: keeping Ferran in the squad with a contract renewal or opting for his sale. The forward is tied to the club until June 30, 2027, and following the sports management’s policy of avoiding players entering the final year of their contracts without a renewal, a decision will have to be made soon. However, Ferran’s future remains uncertain and depends on multiple factors.

It is worth noting that despite his current slump, Ferran had an impressive end to the 2024-25 season, playing a crucial role in winning the Copa del Rey, where he was crowned the tournament’s top scorer. Sporting director Deco even suggested during the summer tour that Ferran could be the future number 9 for Barcelona, especially after Lewandowski’s departure.

At the start of this season, Ferran was used as the main forward, having scored 16 goals. However, his form has been declining, with the last time he found the back of the net being on January 31. This drop in performance may have delayed a contract renewal proposal, as Barcelona is determined to strengthen the forward position next summer. The decision regarding Ferran’s future may be closely linked to what is decided regarding Lewandowski, whose contract expires on June 30. Although his departure has been widely anticipated, president Joan Laporta has repeatedly expressed the desire for Lewandowski to stay for another season.

Ferran, for his part, remains calm and confident. He is determined to regain his scoring touch during the current break from club football and aspires to score for the Spanish national team. He believes that once he starts scoring again, the goals will come in succession. The pressure is high, but Ferran’s determination to turn the situation around is undeniable. The next phase of his career at Barcelona may be at stake, and he is ready to fight to secure a place in the club’s future.
