Prepare for an explosive day at the Miami Open, where the spotlight will be on young talents Alex Eala and João Fonseca, who will have the honor of playing on the main court. But do not be fooled, as tennis legends Iga Swiatek and Venus Williams will also take the stage, promising thrilling moments for fans.

After days of chaos due to Florida’s unpredictable weather, which resulted in the cancellation of all first-round matches on Wednesday, the tournament is ready to bounce back in style. Williams, who was set to face Francesca Jones, saw her match postponed by nearly 24 hours. Now, Thursday’s schedule is packed with action, as the women’s second-round matches are set to begin.

Tournament Director James Blake had promised to give Eala and Fonseca the “center court” treatment at the joint ATP-WTA 1000 event, and he has delivered on that promise. “I think we need them on center court because they have so many fans around the world, and it’s going to feel like a home match for both of them,” Blake said in an interview with Tennis Channel.

Both players have been drawing large crowds to their matches. Eala, a promising talent from the Philippines, sold out tickets during her recent stint in the Middle East, where Filipino fans turned out in droves to support her. Fonseca, on the other hand, has a massive Brazilian fan base, especially in Florida, which heightens the anticipation for his match.

Eala, ranked 31st, will be the first to take action on Stadium Court, facing Laura Siegemund at 12:00. Shortly after, Fonseca will make her debut in the first round against Fabian Marozsan. The winner of this matchup could return to Stadium Court on Friday, when world number 1, Carlos Alcaraz, will also make his appearance.

The second seed and 2022 Miami Open champion, Swiatek, will make her tournament debut against compatriot Magda Linette on the main court, while eighth seed Mirra Andreeva will team up with McCartney Kessler to close out the intense day’s schedule.

Venus Williams’ match against Francesca Jones has been rescheduled to the Grandstand, where the clash between Grigor Dimitrov and Raphael Collignon will also take place. Among other big names in action on Thursday are former world number 3, Stefanos Tsitsipas, who will face qualifier Arthur Fery, and Matteo Berrettini, who will go up against Alexandre Muller.

Meanwhile, the reigning champion and world number 1, Aryna Sabalenka, will begin her campaign on Friday against the winner of the duel between Ann Li and Kimberley Birrell, while third seed and Australian Open champion, Elena Rybakina, will face either Janice Tjen or Yulia Putintseva. Excitement is guaranteed at the Miami Open, with high expectations for what is to come!
