Aryna Sabalenka, the Belarusian tennis player currently ranked number one in the world, delivered an exhilarating performance at the Indian Wells tournament, where she triumphed over Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina in a historic match. The encounter, which was a rematch of the Australian Open final, was marked by a dramatic turnaround, with Sabalenka saving a match point before clinching victory.

The match, which lasted an impressive two hours and 31 minutes, featured moments of intense tension. Rybakina, ranked third in the WTA standings, started strong, taking the first set 6-3. However, Sabalenka’s determination remained unshaken. She responded and, after a closely contested set, secured the second set 6-3, bringing the match to a decisive tiebreak. It was at this crucial moment that Rybakina had the chance to seal the victory, holding a match point while leading 6-5.

But the Belarusian, with fierce attitude and unwavering focus, turned the game in her favor. Sabalenka not only saved the match point but also won the next three points, thereby securing her first title at Indian Wells with a thrilling 7-6 (8-6). This victory marks the 23rd title of her career and her second title in 2026, having already started the season with a win in Brisbane.

Elena Rybakina, who was the champion at Indian Wells in 2023, found herself in the 24th final of the WTA circuit. Despite the loss, the Kazakh secured a significant rise in the rankings, reaching the second position, the highest of her career to date.

Sabalenka’s victory is not only a personal milestone, but also a testament to her resilience and ability to overcome in moments of extreme pressure. The Belarusian tennis player continues to establish herself as one of the leading figures in women’s tennis, promising more excitement in the upcoming competitions.
