The match between Inter and Atalanta, which ended in a 1-1 draw, was marked by a wave of indignation and controversy, particularly for the players and fans of Inter. The team’s frustration was palpable after a series of refereeing decisions that left the players furious, especially in the final moments of the game. Nikola Krstovic was responsible for equalizing the match, canceling out Francesco Pio Esposito’s opening goal that had given Inter the lead.

The game was not only a test of skills on the pitch but also a reflection of the growing pressure on both teams. Inter, who recently lost the Derby della Madonnina, saw their lead in the table reduced to just seven points, while Atalanta faced a difficult week, having earned only one point in two rounds of Serie A and suffering a humiliating 6-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League. With Alessandro Bastoni, Lautaro Martinez, and Hakan Calhanoglu recovering from injuries, the team had to cope with additional pressure. On the other hand, Marcus Thuram made his return to the squad, and Denzel Dumfries made his first start since November 2025, bringing a glimmer of hope to the fans.

During the match, Federico Dimarco had a golden opportunity, but his volley went wide, while Yann Sommer, the Inter goalkeeper, had to make a crucial save against a shot from Gianluca Scamacca. Inter took the lead when Dumfries intercepted the ball and Niccolò Barella set up Pio Esposito, who scored a beautiful goal in the first half, surprising Marco Carnesecchi in goal for Atalanta.

Despite some promising attempts, such as shots from Dumfries and Thuram that went close, the pressure mounted and tension filled the Giuseppe Meazza. The situation became even more complicated when Atalanta managed to equalize in a controversial play: Kamaldeen Sulemana stole the ball from Dumfries and, after a shot that Sommer saved, Krstovic was well-positioned to capitalize on the rebound. The referee, Gianluca Manganiello, seemed to hesitate but ultimately did not call a foul, which led Cristian Chivu, Inter’s coach, to express his anger and be sent off from the match.

Inter’s complaints did not stop there. Moments later, a new penalty appeal was ignored when Giorgio Scalvini fouled Davide Frattesi. Frustration was evident, with Inter feeling that the officiating had failed in crucial moments.

Both teams fought until the final whistle, but the result was a harsh blow for Inter, who saw more points slip away in a season already marked by challenges. The pressure now increases on the players as they try to regain the confidence and form needed to reclaim the lead in the Serie A.
