The injury situation at Barcelona is becoming an increasing concern, and coach Hansi Flick does not hesitate to take responsibility. Following a series of physical setbacks that have affected the team, including the injuries to Alejandro Balde and Jules Kounde, who were hurt during the match against Atlético Madrid, Flick is determined to address the issue and ensure the health of his players.

“I am not happy with this injury situation. We need to see what needs to be improved. It is always my responsibility. It is not the doctors or the physiotherapists; it is my responsibility,” revealed the German coach, emphasizing that managing the players’ workload is crucial. “That is managing a team. Sometimes we make mistakes, but other times it just happens. It is not pleasant when it happens at crucial moments, but it also gives the opportunity for other players to show their level.”

With the pressure of a tight schedule and the demand to maintain competitiveness, Flick stated that he will meet with the physical preparation coaches to discuss the situation and find solutions. “It is something we have to manage; it is normal when there are many games. In the end, we have high-quality players from La Masia, and we have experience with them. We have to manage the workload, and perhaps other players will play tomorrow.”

Injuries are not only affecting the starters but also raising questions about the depth of the squad. The concern surrounding Pedri González, who made his first start after a month out due to injury, is palpable. Flick commented that while Pedri is fit to play, managing his condition will be vital in the coming weeks. “He can play, but we will see that there are more games in the coming weeks. We have to manage that.”

Meanwhile, Gavi is taking steps towards his recovery and could be a crucial addition to the squad. “He will travel with the team, but he will not join the group yet. He has taken another step forward. Perhaps after the trip, he can return more quickly.”

Flick also expressed satisfaction with the return of Robert Lewandowski, who will be available for the match against Athletic Club after being absent due to an orbital fracture. The Polish player, who will wear a protective mask during games, is seen as a cornerstone in the fight for titles. “We are very happy with Robert; he will be able to play tomorrow. He is fantastic; he can score 20, 25, or 30 goals without any problem.”

With the team facing an injury crisis, Flick considers Marc Casado a viable option for the full-back position. “He can play as a 6 or 8, but also as a 2. He is an intelligent player, very clever, and I am happy to have him available.”

Through this overview, it is clear that Hansi Flick not only acknowledges the challenges he faces but is also determined to find solutions and maximize his team’s potential, even in difficult times. Barcelona’s future seems to depend on the coach’s ability to manage injuries and optimize the use of his players in a demanding schedule.
