Riccardo Calafiori, Arsenal defender, revealed aspirations that extend beyond English borders, expressing a strong desire to return to his homeland, Italy, and in particular to AS Roma, the club that saw him grow as a player. In a revealing statement during his appearance on the Supernova podcast, Calafiori did not hide his emotion when discussing a possible return to the Stadio Olimpico.
“Yes, I would like to go back to Roma sooner or later,” Calafiori stated, making it clear that his heart still belongs to the Giallorossi. This confession is not surprising, considering that the young defender has had a career marked by ups and downs since leaving the Italian capital. “Obviously, I can’t plan my whole career at this moment, but I would like to return because I left feeling like I had something left to accomplish,” he added.
Calafiori’s journey in football began promisingly with AS Roma, where he quickly stood out for his skill and potential. However, things did not go as expected. “As you said, everything started very well: the goal and the opportunity to play more. Then, for various reasons, I was loaned out and then sold,” he lamented, reflecting on the challenges he faced and the feeling of not having achieved what he intended during his time at the club.
The young defender admitted that his performance was not as good as he wished, and that frustration is something that stays with him. “I definitely didn’t do as well as I expected, for various reasons. I would like to return to celebrate under the Curva Sud, in front of the fans,” he confessed, revealing his longing for a second chance in Rome.
With his career now on the rise at Arsenal, where he has won the admiration of fans, the question remains: will Calafiori be able to fulfill his dream of wearing the Roma jersey again? With the determination he has shown, it would not be a surprise if, in the near future, the young talent is once again hailed by the passionate supporters of the Giallorossi.
