“Chivu warns Inter: ‘the scudetto is not won yet'”

Cristian Chivu, the former player and current coach, has issued a stern warning to his Inter Milan squad: “The Scudetto is not yet won.” Following a decisive 2-0 victory over Genoa, which marked the eighth consecutive win in Serie A, the coach showed caution at a time when the team is in excellent form. Inter, who recently suffered a surprising elimination in the Champions League against Bodo/Glimt, urgently needed a positive result, and Chivu made it clear that focus must remain sharp.

“We are aware of the importance of this match for what we have already achieved and for what we still want to accomplish in the final weeks of the season,” Chivu stated in comments to Sky Sport Italia. The team struggled to break down Genoa’s defense, but the magic of Federico Dimarco, with an impressive volley, and a penalty converted by Hakan Calhanoglu secured three vital points.

Inter now occupies a comfortable position, with a 13-point lead in the Serie A table, but Chivu is not carried away by euphoria. “It is a remarkable achievement that we have won 14 of our last 15 league games, but our exit from the Champions League was disastrous,” he reflected. “We prepare for each match in the best way possible, mentally and physically, treating every game the same, regardless of the name of our opponents.”

With 11 rounds remaining and 33 points up for grabs, Chivu’s warning is clear: “The Scudetto is not won yet. We have had ups and downs, but we want to build on all the good things we have done over the last two and a half months.” Inter is also preparing for the first leg of the Coppa Italia semifinal against Como next Tuesday, in addition to the much-anticipated Derby della Madonnina against Milan next weekend.

“All 24 players are working hard and have a winning mentality. They never complain and accept the reality of the situation, whether in Serie A, the Cup, or the Champions League. We want to be competitive,” Chivu assured.

Historically, Inter has only managed to accumulate 67 points or more after 27 rounds of Serie A on two previous occasions: in the 2006-07 and 2023-24 seasons. The team is one step away from making history, but with Chivu’s firm determination, it is clear that the battle for the Scudetto is far from over.
