Paul Pogba: The agony of the AS Monaco star reaches a new peak.

Paul Pogba, the former star of Manchester United, is living a football nightmare that seems to have no end. Since leaving Old Trafford, the French prodigy’s career has been filled with obstacles. The latest update on his status at AS Monaco only intensifies his misery, leaving many to question the player’s future.

Pogba’s journey began promisingly. The talented midfielder joined the Manchester United academy in 2009 from Le Havre and made his first-team debut in the 2011/2012 season. Despite a dazzling start, the Frenchman ultimately left the Red Devils after just seven games and packed his bags for Juventus, where he shone for four seasons. His return to Manchester in 2016 for a record fee of £89 million seemed to be the redemption he had long awaited. However, between 2016 and 2022, while accumulating 226 appearances, the pressure and injuries began to take their toll.

After his second departure from United, Pogba re-signed with Juventus, but his time at the Old Lady was marked by health issues and, to make matters worse, he was suspended for doping. Initially, the ban was four years, but after an appeal, the sanction was reduced to 18 months. The hope of a return to his best football seemed like a mirage, and the player eventually found a home at AS Monaco in the summer, but his return to French football has been a complete disaster.

The current season has not brought good news. With only three appearances as a substitute and no minutes played in 2023, Pogba’s situation at Monaco is becoming unsustainable. The club’s management is “at the end of the line” with the midfielder, with no clues as to when he might return to the pitch. Thiago Scuro, CEO of Monaco, made statements revealing the frustration surrounding Pogba’s situation. “Paul is a very talented player and is at a different level than what we are used to in Ligue 1. We knew that the challenge of bringing him back would be difficult. Obviously, this also impacts the visibility of the league and AS Monaco,” he stated.

Scuro’s words add a touch of uncertainty to Pogba’s future: “Given the situation, both parties will discuss this summer if Paul is willing to continue this process.” The impending discussion about the player’s future raises questions about his commitment and whether AS Monaco still believes he can be the star he promised to be. The outlook is bleak, and fans, as well as experts, are watching closely every step Pogba takes in the coming months. One thing is certain: if this chapter of his career does not change quickly, Paul Pogba’s story may be nearing its sad end.
