Flavio Cobolli shone brightly at the ATP 500 in Acapulco, securing a spot in the semifinals after a convincing victory over Yibing Wu, with a final score of 7-6, 6-1. The young Italian talent displayed impressive resilience, especially after a tightly contested first set, where he faced two set points but emerged victorious in the tie-break, closing it out with a score of seven to four. In the second set, Cobolli left no room for doubt, quickly establishing a 3-0 lead and finishing the match with a decisive 6-1.

“I am very happy with the victory and the way I played, especially in the second set,” declared Cobolli, who is now preparing for an even greater challenge in the semifinals, where he will face Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic, who defeated Frenchman Terence Atmane with a clear 6-3, 6-3. The clash between Cobolli and Kecmanovic is scheduled for tonight, not before 2 AM Italian time.

On the other hand, Mattia Bellucci’s journey came to an end in a bitter fashion. Following an impressive victory over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Bellucci was unable to replicate his success and was eliminated by Frances Tiafoe, who sealed the match with a score of 6-3, 6-4. The first set was closely contested until 3-3, when Tiafoe managed to break Bellucci’s serve twice in a row. The second set featured more breaks, with the American closing out the match in one hour and 45 minutes. Tiafoe now advances to an exciting semifinal showdown against Brandon Nakashima, who also secured a three-set victory over Valentin Vacherot.

Shifting to the ATP 250 in Santiago, Argentine Francisco Cerundolo, the tournament’s top seed, moved into the quarterfinals after defeating Elmer Moller 6-2, 6-2. Cerundolo, who faced an early exit in Rio de Janeiro, dominated this match and is set to face Emilio Nava, who defeated Paraguayan Adolfo Daniel Vallejo 7-5, 6-3. The draw in Santiago promises great excitement, with the quarterfinal matchups already determined.

Meanwhile, at the WTA 500 tournament in Merida, Jasmine Paolini delivered an impressive performance, seeking to redeem herself from a disappointing start to the season. Paolini gave no chances to Australian Priscilla Hon, winning decisively 6-0, 6-2. “It was a relief to finally show my true potential on the court,” commented Paolini, who is now preparing to face Katie Boulter in a matchup that promises to be electrifying. Unfortunately, the tournament’s number 2 seed, Emma Navarro, was eliminated after losing to Shuai Zhang 6-4, 6-4.

At the WTA 250 tournament in Austin, the quarterfinals are also set with intriguing matchups between Yuan and Krueger, Masarova and Townsend, Selekhmeteva and Stearns, and Birrell and Tomljanovic, promising more exciting action on the women’s circuit.
