Al Nassr shines again in the Saudi league, positioning itself at the top of the Roshn Saudi League after a crushing 5-0 victory against Al Najmah, driven by the ever-inspiring Cristiano Ronaldo and defender Inigo Martinez. This triumph not only marks the team’s eighth consecutive victory but also places them ahead of Al Ahli, with just 11 rounds left in the season, as they aim to secure their first league title since 2019.
The match, held on Wednesday, saw Al Nassr dominate from the first minute, with Ronaldo winning and converting a penalty just five minutes in. This goal marks the 21st time the club’s captain has found the net this season, putting him one goal behind Julian Quinones and two behind Ivan Toney in the race for the top scorer title. It is worth noting that Ronaldo has been the top scorer in the last two seasons and is determined to repeat this achievement.
The team not only secured the three points, but the spectacle continued with Kingsley Coman scoring the second goal after an hour of play, followed by a goal from Sadio Mané, assisted by Ronaldo. To seal the victory, Inigo Martinez also made his mark with two goals, solidifying his defensive and offensive performance.
After the match, Martinez, who joined the club from Barcelona, expressed his satisfaction in receiving the Man of the Match award, stating: “I’m happy, especially for the victory. It’s very important to keep winning and to stay at the top of the league. And, of course, it’s always a pleasure to score, but the most important thing for me is to defend. Today, I also scored a goal, and that is more than enough for me.”
The impressive defensive performance of Al Nassr cannot be underestimated, as the team has managed to keep a clean sheet in the last six matches of the RSL. “It’s vital,” said Martinez about the defensive strength. “We know that if we keep our goal intact, we create many opportunities and always score one or two goals. This is the way we need to go.”
With the title race heating up, Martinez added: “There is still a lot ahead, and we have to keep our feet on the ground and know that without hard work, there are no victories or titles. So, we will continue to fight until the end, always with the same joy and the same passion since we started the league.”
However, the team cannot relax, as the RSL quickly moves towards the 24th round, and Al Nassr will face Al Fayha, who currently occupies 11th place, next Saturday. The pressure is high, but the team’s determination is unwavering in the pursuit of glory.
