The revolution is coming to the world of golf! The PGA Tour is preparing to implement a tiered system that promises to transform the way fans watch their idols. According to veteran golf journalist Eamon Lynch, the Tour’s CEO, Brian Rolapp, will make a crucial announcement regarding this new structure, which could shake up all sectors involved in the sport.

Currently, the PGA Tour is taking place in Palm Beach Gardens for the 2026 Cognizant Classic, but the reality is that, over the years, the presence of top players has been declining in various tournaments. This trend is not exclusive to this week’s event, but reflects a concerning pattern that has been observed in several competitions.

On Tuesday, February 24, the Future Competitions Committee, chaired by golf legend Tiger Woods, met to discuss these changes. According to Lynch, the news will be revealed next month during the Players Championship, one of the most prestigious events on the calendar.

For those unfamiliar, the PGA Tour had previously introduced the concept of Signature Events a few years ago, which had already segmented the calendar into two parts. The highest-ranked players were required to participate in the signature events, but they had the freedom to choose from the non-signature events.

Last week, during the Genesis Invitational, Tiger Woods addressed the challenges posed by the restructuring of the schedule. “It has been a big challenge,” he said, as reported by the Herald Tribune. “We are literally trying to serve everyone, from the players, our media partners, all our sponsors, the local communities, and even changing venues and going to bigger markets.”

Woods continued: “What do we need to do in terms of a competitive model to make our tour the best possible product each year while still allowing space for development? How can we do all of this at the same time?”

And now, what to expect from the PGA Tour? After the 2026 Cognizant Classic, the tour will move to Orlando, where the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the third signature event of the season, will take place from March 5 to 8 at the Bay Hill Club & Lodge. At the same time, the PGA Tour will host the opposite event, the Puerto Rico Open, which will be held at the Grand Reserve Golf Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.

Here is a summary of the upcoming schedule on the PGA Tour:

– March 5–8: Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard (Bay Hill Club & Lodge)

– March 5–8: Puerto Rico Open (Grand Reserve Golf Club)

– March 12–15: The Players Championship (TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course)

– March 19–22: Valspar Championship (Innisbrook Resort Copperhead Course)

– March 26–29: Texas Children’s Houston Open (Memorial Park Golf Course)

– April 2–5: Valero Texas Open (TPC San Antonio Oaks Course)

– April 9–12: Masters Tournament (Augusta National Golf Club)

The future of golf is being reshaped, and fans should be ready for a new era where superstars can shine in exclusive events, while other players will have the opportunity to showcase their value in more accessible competitions. What is happening on the PGA Tour is just the beginning of a major transformation. Stay tuned!
