Flavio Cobolli saw his dreams of reaching the final of the ATP 250 in Delray Beach crumble after a resounding defeat to American Sebastian Korda. The young Roman talent, just 23 years old, was eliminated in the semifinals with a score of 7-6, 6-1, in a match where Korda demonstrated overwhelming dominance, particularly on his serve.

The first set was a true test of nerves, with both athletes holding firm on their serves until the crucial tenth game. Cobolli, facing a critical moment while down 15-40, managed to save two break points that could have turned into set points for Korda. However, the pressure did not relent. The American, boasting an impressive first serve percentage, took the match to a decisive tiebreak. It was there that Korda shone, securing a minibreak early on and closing out the set with a flawless performance, winning 7-1 in the tiebreak.

In the second set, Cobolli entered the court needing to turn the situation around. But the pressure was palpable. Right from the start, the Roman tennis player found himself in trouble again, facing a 15-40, but managed to save his service game. However, the situation quickly worsened: a mistake with a forehand out resulted in a break that put Korda ahead, 3-1. From there, the American did not look back, extending his lead to 4-1 and consolidating his victory with a second break.

Cobolli’s elimination marks yet another frustration in his career, as this is the fourth time he has failed to reach the final, having lost to Korda previously at the ATP in Washington, and having fallen short in two clay court finals in Bucharest and Hamburg. The pressure continues to mount on the young athlete, who now finds himself at a crossroads, needing to find ways to overcome these obstacles.

Meanwhile, the second semifinal of the Delray Beach tournament is scheduled for the Italian night, with Americans Tommy Paul and Learner Tien set to face off. Paul, who has already eliminated the tournament’s number one, Taylor Fritz, and Tien, who dispatched Frances Tiafoe, promise an electrifying duel. Expectations are high, and tennis fans will be watching closely to see who will join Korda in the grand final.
