Rio Ave is going through a complicated phase and, on the eve of an important clash against Moreirense, coach Francesco Farioli shared his thoughts on the current situation of the club and what he expects from the upcoming challenge. Farioli’s words reveal a mix of pragmatism and optimism, essential traits for dealing with the pressure the team is facing.

Farioli began by addressing his team’s performance, stating that despite the difficulties, the focus should be on their own game rather than the state of the opponent. “We had a bad experience with Casa Pia, who were also not in a good moment and then managed to put on an excellent display. So, I believe that should definitely not be our focus. We need to concentrate on ourselves, on how we approach the game, with the maximum intensity possible,” said the coach. This strategic approach is fundamental, especially considering that the past does not count and each match is a new opportunity.

The coach acknowledged the tactical changes that Moreirense may implement, mentioning the possibility of a shift in their defensive line, which could significantly impact the game. “They did it in the match against Moreirense: they went from a three-man defense to a four-man defense,” Farioli explained. This tactical flexibility requires his team to be equally prepared to adapt and respond effectively.

In addition to his focus on football, Farioli also shared his recent experience of attending a roller hockey classic, a sport that, according to him, shares some tactical similarities with futsal. “Watching it live is completely different. The intensity, the contacts, and some interesting tactical issues… It was undoubtedly an excellent experience,” he emphasized, highlighting the importance of learning from other sports to enrich his approach as a coach.

The discussion inevitably shifted to the fragility of Rio Ave in comparison to FC Porto, a formidable opponent. However, Farioli made it clear that he will not underestimate his rival. “In a one-off game, it’s not the shirt that wins the match. I’ll state the obvious, but the game starts 0-0. We are facing a team that has certainly prepared in the best way to come and play here,” he stated, reiterating that determination and the will to win are crucial for success.

Finally, the coach addressed the controversy surrounding the Prestianni case, which has generated a wave of comments and analyses. “I’m definitely not here to give a lesson or a masterclass on the subject,” he said, before emphasizing his extensive international experience that allows him to have a unique perspective on the situation. Farioli seems aware that this case could have significant repercussions for Portuguese football.

In this context, Rio Ave will need to find within itself the strength and resilience necessary to overcome a difficult moment and demonstrate that, even in the face of adversity, the will to fight and the ability to adapt can lead to positive results. With Farioli at the helm, the hope that the team will get back on track is palpable.
