Jannik Sinner, the young star of Italian tennis, is not letting a recent defeat get him down and reaffirms his determination to conquer the biggest stages in the sport. During a press conference at the ATP 500 in Doha, the 21-year-old tennis player gave an honest assessment of his performance and outlined his ambitious goals for the coming years, including an audacious target for 2026: to win the prestigious Roland Garros tournament.
“I simply lost a couple of matches. I also have to remember what I did over the last three years, where I won a lot and lost very few matches,” Sinner emphasized, in an attempt to dispel any doubts about his competitive ability following his quarter-final elimination against Jakub Mensik. The tennis player did not shy away from his commitment to the future and made it clear that he is focused on his long-term aspirations: “One of my big goals is Roland Garros, but that’s still far away. All players face challenges throughout their careers, although I wouldn’t call it ‘suffering’. The confidence to play good tennis is there.”
Sinner, who has a close relationship with his coaching team, revealed that he is working on new strategies and approaches to improve his performance, although he acknowledges that not everything always goes as planned. “Indian Wells tends to be a bit of a difficult tournament for me, but we’ll see what happens. In Miami, I’ve always played well. After that, the clay season will begin. I’m trying to add some new things to my game. Today they didn’t work out as I would have liked, but not every day is the same,” he said, demonstrating a resilient mindset.
Physical condition was also a central theme in his statements. Following a less positive experience in Australia, Sinner said: “I didn’t have problems with the humidity. I faced some challenges after Australia, but now I feel good again. We are working on my physical condition. We have two weeks to train properly and recharge for the upcoming tournaments.” He acknowledged that he was a bit out of shape during his time in Australia, but he is determined to find the right balance between preparation and competition.
With a clear vision and renewed ambition, Jannik Sinner is ready to face the upcoming challenges on the circuit, determined to leave his mark and achieve his dreams, including the coveted Career Grand Slam. His journey promises to be exciting, and the eyes of the tennis world will be fixed on this talented athlete in the years to come.
