The situation surrounding Iga Swiatek, the prodigious Polish tennis player and current world number two, has become a true battleground of opinions. The controversy arose when some critics questioned the role of the athlete’s psychologist, Daria Abramowicz, leading to an explosive reaction from the player’s father, Tomasz Swiatek. “What have you achieved? Almost nothing. Mind your own lives,” shot the former Olympic rower, launching a direct attack on those who dared to criticize his daughter’s team.
Abramowicz, who has been supporting Swiatek since 2019, has played a crucial role in the tennis player’s meteoric rise, during which she has won six Grand Slam titles, including an impressive victory at the French Open at the age of 19. Despite various coaches having come and gone in Iga’s life, Abramowicz’s constant presence stands out as one of the few figures who has remained by her side during times of change.
However, the relationship between the athlete and the psychologist has not been immune to criticism. Sports psychologist Dariusz Nowicki raised concerns in 2025, alluding to a possible lack of boundaries in the dynamic between Swiatek and Abramowicz, describing the partnership as “disturbed.” These statements, combined with a less favorable phase for the player on the WTA circuit, have brought the psychologist back into the spotlight.
During an appearance on the podcast “Trzeci Serwis,” Swiatek’s youth coach, Artur Sostaczko, analyzed the situation, revealing that he has never seen another player spend so much time with a psychologist. “If it works for Iga, I won’t discourage her,” Sostaczko said, although he admitted that the approach could be reconsidered. Co-host Lechem Sidorem countered, suggesting that the lack of tangible results in tournaments, such as the Australian Open and Doha, indicates that the current strategy may not be working.
Tensions rose when Sostaczko suggested that it might be beneficial for Swiatek to spend some time away from Abramowicz during preparation periods, an idea that, while considered, was not well received by critics. What followed was a fierce defense from Tomasz Swiatek, who did not hesitate to launch attacks on his daughter’s detractors, emphasizing her experience and what she has already achieved.
The message is clear: the Swiatek family will not allow external criticism to define what is best for Iga. Amid a career filled with successes and challenges, the Polish tennis player and her team remain steadfast, focused on what truly matters – performance on the court. Iga Swiatek’s saga continues, along with the voices that rise, both in support and against, revealing the intense pressure that accompanies top athletes.
