AC Milan, one of the top favorites for the Serie A title, fell short of expectations by drawing 1-1 with Como in a match that, although postponed due to the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics, was a crucial opportunity to close the gap on the league leaders. The game, held at San Siro, turned into a true test of the team’s resilience, but proved to be a bitter disappointment for the Rossoneri.

At the start of the match, Milan failed to capitalize on their superiority, allowing Como, in search of a place in Europe, to take the lead in the 32nd minute. Milan’s goalkeeper, Mike Maignan, made a critical error by having a risky pass intercepted by Nico Paz. The confident Paz did not hesitate to fire a precise shot that left Maignan with no chance to react. Earlier, Mergim Vojvoda had seen a goal disallowed for offside, but Como did not let that discourage them and took advantage of the gap in Milan’s defense.

After the break, Milan entered determined to change the course of the match. It was Rafael Leão, in great form, who equalized the score in the 64th minute. The forward, with the calmness of a veteran, took advantage of a mistake by Como’s goalkeeper, Jean Butez, who advanced too far in an attempt to cut off a long ball, allowing Leão to get past him and slot the ball into the net, marking his eighth goal of the current Serie A season.

The match remained balanced until the end, with both teams searching for the win. Leão nearly scored a second for Milan, but his header hit the crossbar, while at the other end, Anastasios Douvikas came close to giving Como the victory, but his shot was deflected into the side netting. The tension increased even more for Massimiliano Allegri, who received a red card after a disagreement with Como’s coaching staff, forcing him to watch the conclusion of the match from outside the bench.

With this draw, Milan saw their deficit to leaders Inter increase to seven points, a heavy blow to their title aspirations. On the other hand, Como, under the guidance of Cesc Fabregas, climbed to sixth place, now just four points behind Juventus, who occupy fifth position. The battle for the Champions League remains fierce, and the pressure on Milan is only increasing. This draw could be a turning point, but the truth is that the rossoneri urgently need to find their way back to winning if they wish to dream of the Serie A title.
