Cesc Fabregas expressed a mix of pride and reflection following the 1-1 draw between Como and Milan, but he did not hesitate to apologize for the misunderstanding he had with Max Allegri. The tension between the two coaches culminated in an on-field expulsion, but the former Spanish international made a point of highlighting the remarkable performance of his team, which, despite being young and inexperienced, demonstrated great resilience and focus.
“I want to apologize above all, I did something I am not proud of and that was unsportsmanlike. We have to keep our hands to ourselves, as Chivu recently said, especially among coaches,” Fabregas stated to DAZN Italia. The verbal confrontation that led to the expulsion of both coaches was a point of tension in a match where Como’s defense proved solid, allowing only one real test for their goalkeeper in the second half.
Fabregas analyzed the game with a clear perspective: “We lost a stupid ball and we know that when we leave space for the counter-attack, against world-class players, they can hurt us. That was practically the only time they got behind us, but that shows the level, because the one time we are not perfect is when they hurt us.” The Como coach emphasized the importance of striving for an almost perfect performance, even while acknowledging that such an ideal is unattainable.
The match was also marked by the inimitable skill of Luka Modric, who, even at 41 years old, continues to be a maestro in the Milan midfield. “It’s a true pleasure to watch him play. What can you say when he’s 41 years old and playing at this level? You try to press him with three or four players, he doesn’t care, he just controls perfectly and turns to escape. We can be grateful that he’s in Serie A and that we can see him every week,” praised Fabregas.
However, the joy of the performance was overshadowed by the suspension of Nico Paz, who will miss the upcoming clash with Juventus after being cautioned for a clumsy tackle. Fabregas, aware of the intensity of the competition, commented: “I try not to talk about the table. We’ve gone through two difficult months, as we weren’t used to playing every two or three days. We did this with 17 players available, so we need to rotate, have fresh legs, players who are convinced they can play. I don’t tell the players who starts until the last minute because I want everyone to be focused.”
With his mind set on the next challenge in Turin, Fabregas acknowledges that his team must maintain focus and motivation. “We are doing well, and it’s important to have this performance after the defeat to Fiorentina. We need to repeat this level to earn points in Turin,” he concluded, making it clear that Como is determined to continue fighting for a place in European competitions.
