Anna Kalinskaya, a promising Russian tennis player, has just unveiled her training secret that sets her apart from her competitors. In a revealing interview with the Russian media outlet Championnat, the 27-year-old athlete did not hesitate to share her unconventional approach: “I rarely train with other girls.” This peculiar method seems to be paying off, as Kalinskaya reached the quarter-finals at the prestigious WTA 1000 tournament in Doha, defeating renowned players such as Emma Navarro and Elina Svitolina.

Kalinskaya emphasizes the importance of privacy and focus during her training, preferring the company of her team rather than mixing with other players. She recalled a positive training experience with Cathy McNally, where, in addition to playing, they performed exercises that, according to her, were somewhat strange. “I like to compete with the guys, and although my coach tells me to calm down, I admit that I get a little frustrated when I can’t beat them. It’s complicated because they have a different level of play. It’s like when Aryna Sabalenka faced Nick Kyrgios. The competition is intense,” Kalinskaya shared, who often opts for male training partners.

Looking to the future is also a fundamental part of Kalinskaya’s mindset. “The truth is that I never dreamed of winning a Grand Slam. I’m more focused on living in the moment. Traveling the world is one of the best parts of a tennis player’s life; the opportunity to see new places is incredible,” she stated. However, the athlete has started to see the possibility of winning a Slam as something viable and, although she admits it is a significant challenge, she feels she is maturing in the game, especially after reaching the quarter-finals at the 2024 Australian Open.

With a unique approach and a focused mindset, Anna Kalinskaya is redefining the training norms in the world of women’s tennis, and fans can hardly wait to see what the future holds for this talented player.
