The Atalanta coach, Raffaele Palladino, does not hide his ambition: “The dream of finishing in the top eight of the Champions League is very much alive.” The Italian team is preparing to face Union Saint-Gilloise this Wednesday at the Anderlecht Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 20:00 GMT (21:00 CET). Despite being on the brink of securing a place among the top eight and, consequently, direct access to the knockout stage, Atalanta suffered a dramatic fall in the last round, losing to Athletic Club Bilbao and dropping to 13th place.

In the press conference, Palladino made it clear that although the goal is ambitious, the priority is to secure three points: “We are facing a team that still has the opportunity to qualify for the playoffs; therefore, we need to keep our levels of concentration high. Last week’s defeat should serve as a lesson.” This warning demonstrates the seriousness with which Atalanta approaches the challenge and the coach’s determination to avoid any deviation from their focus.

The coach revealed that he does not intend to make significant changes to the team, highlighting his desire to field the best possible lineup. “I still have some doubts about the starting eleven, but I don’t want to rush. Once I choose the players, I know everyone will give 100%. Tomorrow’s game is very important, so I can’t think about the future and I won’t be making rotations in the squad.” This commitment to victory underscores the importance of the match, especially considering the strength of the opponent at home.

Palladino also mentioned Union Saint-Gilloise as a team to be wary of: “They will give everything to stay in Europe and qualify for the playoffs.” The pressure on the Belgians is high, but Atalanta is aware that to achieve their dream, every game counts.

In the final match of the group stage, Atalanta will be without Giacomo Raspadori, who scored his first goal for the club in Serie A, but is unable to play in the Champions League due to registration issues. Additionally, the club is undergoing changes, with Daniel Maldini transferring to Lazio, and more developments may arise in the upcoming transfer window.

Palladino concluded his conference by emphasizing: “I’m not thinking about the transfer strategy, that’s the club’s job.” With fierce determination and sharp focus, Atalanta is ready to fight until the last minute for a place among the best in Europe, and the anticipation is palpable as the decisive clash approaches.
