Diogo Costa, the unshakeable captain of FC Porto, made emotional statements following his team’s victory, which secured their place in the semi-finals of the Taça de Portugal. In an interview with RTP, the goalkeeper expressed his satisfaction not only with the achievement but also with the cohesion and determination displayed by the group during the match. The vibrant atmosphere surrounding the club does not go unnoticed by the player, who emphasizes the importance of succeeding in decisive moments.

“As you can imagine, with the whole aura that is here, it is always special to win a game like this. Today, obviously, we progressed, but we always approached it as a final. As I have said many times, we played as we trained. I think today is proof of that, that we knew how to suffer, we knew how to run, we knew how to win duels, we also knew how to have the ball, and we deserve to be congratulated,” Costa stated, highlighting the winning mentality that characterizes the squad.

The goalkeeper did not forget to thank the fans, highlighting that their unconditional support is fundamental to the team’s success: “I think the most important thing is that we are all together. I also want to thank the fans for all their support and say that together we are stronger.” This recognition of the role of the supporters demonstrates the strong bond between the players and their fans, a crucial element in the competitive environment.

In addition to the victory, Costa commented on Thiago Silva’s debut in the heart of the defense, a reinforcement that promises to bring even more solidity to the team’s defensive sector: “Obviously, it is a privilege to have a player like Thiago in front of me, not just for me but for the entire team and for all of FC Porto. We are very pleased with the person he is, a hardworking individual, and as I said, he has come to add value, and that is what he proved today,” he said, praising the qualities of his new teammate.

When asked whether FC Porto is currently the best team in Portugal, Costa was cautious and pragmatic: “Honestly, we don’t look at it that way. I, as captain, and all the captains, always try to keep our feet firmly on the ground. Here, work is always more important than quality. And as we proved today, that is the path. Game by game, they are all finals,” he concluded, reiterating that humility and dedication are fundamental for the team’s continued success.

With this victory, FC Porto not only advances in the Taça de Portugal but also solidifies its position as one of the most competitive teams in Portuguese football. The “final to final” mentality may be the secret to the success that all fans hope to see from the team throughout the season.
