Famalicão is experiencing a season of ups and downs, but looking at the numbers, it is undeniable that the team from Minho is surpassing its performance from last season. With a more favorable ranking and a significantly higher total of points, the Vila Nova de Famalicão team is showing signs of progress that cannot be overlooked.
After the conclusion of the first half of the current edition of the league, Famalicão occupies a comfortable 8th place, accumulating 23 points, which is three more than during the same period last season. This improvement reflects the work the team has been developing on the field, appearing more competitive and resilient.
At the start of the 2025/2026 season, the Minho team got off to a strong start, securing three wins and one draw. However, the first major setback came in the 4th round when they faced Sporting, suffering a 2-1 defeat. This setback did not demotivate the team, which quickly regained its rhythm, recording five consecutive matches with points, including two wins and three draws. However, the loss to FC Porto (1-2) was a heavy blow.
The unfolding of the season brought more challenges, including a draw (2-2) against Moreirense and a new defeat in the derby against SC Braga (1-2). Despite the difficulties faced, the team found its way back to victory with an impressive 4-0 rout of Estoril. Unfortunately, that joy was short-lived, as the team entered a less positive phase, suffering three consecutive defeats against Benfica (0-1), Estrela da Amadora (2-3), and Alverca (0-1), in addition to an earlier setback in the Taça de Portugal, where they were defeated by FC Porto (1-4).
So far, in 17 rounds of the championship, Famalicão has recorded six wins, five draws, and six losses, with a total of 20 goals scored and 14 conceded. The team is positioned in the middle of the table, and the immediate focus of coach Hugo Oliveira is to resume victories. Oliveira, who took over the team’s management in December 2024, has already shown that he is capable of leading Famalicão in promising directions, and the next challenge will be on the 18th, in the Azores, against Santa Clara, where the ambition to secure three points is palpable.
Famalicão, with a trajectory marked by ups and downs, is determined to show that it can be a force to be reckoned with in this league, and all eyes will be on what the team can achieve in the upcoming rounds.
