Liam Rosenior is returning to French football, taking over as head coach of Paris FC in a surprising move following his brief and tumultuous stint at Chelsea, where he was dismissed in April, just four months after arriving at Stamford Bridge. The 41-year-old coach has signed a contract valid for two seasons with the French club, with the possibility of an extension for another year, as reported.

After managing Strasbourg before his English adventure, Rosenior now succeeds Antoine Kombouaré at a time when Paris FC is looking to make a qualitative leap after finishing 11th in Ligue 1 last season. The club, owned by the Arnault family and with Red Bull as a minority shareholder, has renewed ambitions and sees Rosenior as the right man to drive the project forward.

The Paris FC management justified their choice by highlighting Rosenior's “broad range of experience at the highest level,” also emphasizing his “ability to develop young talents” and an unwavering commitment to “attractive and attacking football.” The club does not hide its intention to adopt a bold playing identity, grounded in the promotion of emerging players.

Rosenior joined Chelsea in January during a turbulent period, replacing Enzo Maresca, who left after a disagreement with the management structure. Despite an encouraging start, the team plunged into a negative streak under the Englishman, losing their last five Premier League games without scoring a goal, which led to his premature departure.

Despite this setback, Rosenior remains highly respected for his work at Strasbourg, where he led the youngest squad in the top five European leagues to seventh place in 2024-25 and qualification for the UEFA Conference League. His journey began as the under-23 coach at Brighton, before moving to Derby County, first as Wayne Rooney's assistant and then as interim manager. In 2022, he took over at Hull City, guiding them to 15th place in the Championship in his first season and to seventh in his second, ultimately being dismissed after failing to reach the play-offs.

The position left vacant by Rosenior at Chelsea has been filled by Xabi Alonso, former coach of Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen, becoming the sixth permanent manager of the Blues in the last four years under BlueCo's leadership.
