Carlos Baleba wants to strengthen Manchester United, Brighton asks for 70 million.

Carlos Baleba is determined to wear the Manchester United shirt, but he has yet to receive any official approach from the English club. According to Fabrizio Romano, a transfer expert, the Brighton midfielder remains “super interested” in strengthening the Red Devils, but the management led by INEOS has not yet initiated concrete negotiations in this transfer window.

Manchester United's interest in Baleba has been ongoing for some time, with the player emerging as a priority target for the upcoming season. However, despite the expressed desire of the Cameroonian international, the administration at Old Trafford believes there are other targets that take precedence at the moment. Brighton, for its part, has significantly lowered its financial demands: it is no longer asking for the £100 million it sought a year ago, but now requires at least £70 million for the 22-year-old midfielder's transfer, following a 2025/26 season that fell below expectations and decreased the player's market value.

Ben Jacobs, a journalist for talkSPORT, revealed this month that there is already an understanding, albeit informal, regarding the personal terms between Baleba and Manchester United, stemming from negotiations that took place last summer. According to Jacobs, “I feel they have other targets ahead of Baleba. But it's a deal they don't need to prioritize as much as others, because it's a scenario of a player who wants Manchester United, who has personal terms lined up since last summer. So if they want to move forward with Baleba, they just have to go to Brighton.”

Fabrizio Romano updated the Baleba dossier this week and clarified the status of the process on his YouTube channel: “For Baleba, at this moment, Manchester United is aware of the player's desire. He would be very interested in joining Manchester United, but, at this moment, United has not yet contacted or made any proposal to Brighton. So, at this moment, the Baleba topic, I think, is a bit cold. If the major targets and negotiations fail, we will see what happens, but for now, there is only the player's strong desire, and nothing more.” Baleba, who continues to train in Brighton, is thus awaiting developments, but the possibility of a transfer remains, for now, on hold.

Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano also brought news about Aurelien Tchouameni, the Real Madrid midfielder, who has been linked as a possible reinforcement for Manchester United's midfield. Romano explained: “What I have always said, and I maintain today, is that internally at Manchester United, Tchouameni has always been seen as the perfect signing for the midfield. A top player, elite mentality, world-class, so they consider Tchouameni as the ideal replacement for Casemiro. Then, there are two points. The first is the salary. Tchouameni earns a very high salary at Real Madrid and, at this moment, Manchester United has already made it clear to those close to Tchouameni, in the contacts made in recent months, that the only way for the midfielder to join United would be with a different salary. The second point is Real Madrid. At this moment, United has not yet received any green light from Real Madrid to negotiate for Tchouameni. They are not receiving any indication from Madrid to sit at the table and try to reach an agreement. So, the question is: could it be the dream signing for Manchester United? Without a doubt.”

The future of Baleba and Tchouameni remains uncertain, with Manchester United keeping various options on the table and monitoring the market, but without any immediate progress for either player. Expectations remain high among fans regarding the club's next steps in this transfer window.
