Maxi Araújo remained calm regarding the departure of Morten Hjulmand to Atlético Madrid, emphasizing the quality of the reinforcements that have arrived in Sporting's midfield. The Uruguayan international spoke to CMTV after leaving the Estádio Algarve, shortly after Sporting's 7-0 victory over Strasbourg, highlighting the positive impact of the new players who have already scored: Issa Doumbia, Sergi Altimira, Silas Andersen, and Rodrigo Zalazar.

The Sporting defender took the time to praise his former teammate, stating, “He is a great player, a great captain, and a wonderful person. I was very happy to have played with him.” However, he was quick to put the departure of the Danish player into perspective: “But now we have many good reinforcements as well, we will enjoy.” When asked about Zalazar, he responded with a smile: “Of course [laughs],” showing confidence in his compatriot.

Regarding the captain's armband, Maxi Araújo distanced himself from the possibility of being among the group of captains for Sporting in the new season. “No, no, I don't think so. What the coach [Rui Borges] says will be the best…” he stated, referring to the coach's methods. So far, the armband has been worn by Eduardo Quaresma in the absence of Gonçalo Inácio, who is on holiday after the 2026 World Cup, and Daniel Bragança, who participated in closed-door friendly matches.

This statement from Maxi Araújo comes at a time of renewal at Sporting, with several new faces taking on prominent roles in the squad. The departure of a figure like Hjulmand could be seen as a significant loss, but the Uruguayan shows confidence in the group's ability to maintain a competitive level, as evidenced by the collective performance and the goals scored by the new signings.

The coaching staff and players seem focused on preparing for a successful season, supported by a solid foundation and a strategy that involves the quick integration of the new elements. The confidence expressed by Maxi Araújo is a clear sign that Sporting aims to remain strong, even in the face of significant changes in their midfield.
