Carlos Baleba is set to move to Manchester United, and new details about his contract are emerging, heightening expectations among fans. On Wednesday, David Ornstein from The Athletic revealed that Manchester United is progressing in negotiations with Brighton & Hove Albion to secure the young Senegalese midfielder.

United's interest in Baleba is not recent; the team had attempted to sign him last summer but ultimately backed out due to the high asking price. Despite a less successful previous season, Manchester United has maintained its attention on the player, now 22 years old. With the arrival of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, coupled with his recent injury, it seemed that the transfer to Old Trafford was at risk. However, sources indicate that the two parties are close to reaching an agreement.

According to Foot Mercato, Lille, the club where Baleba began his European career in 2022, may receive a portion of the transfer fee. Brighton had paid €30 million to Lille to acquire Baleba, which includes a sell-on clause of 15% to 20%. Thus, if Manchester United finalizes the transfer for €70 million, Brighton will see a profit of €40 million, while Lille could receive between €6 million and €8 million.

Simon Jones from the Daily Mail reports that Baleba is set to sign a five-year contract with Manchester United, which promises to solidify his position in the squad. Meanwhile, United is preparing to kick off their season in the Premier League this weekend, with an away match against newly promoted Hull City.

The completion of this transfer is eagerly anticipated by both United and Lille fans, who hope that negotiations will conclude swiftly. The transfer market is moving at a rapid pace, and Baleba's arrival could be a significant step for Manchester United in their quest for a more competitive squad this season.
