Manchester City was on the verge of investing €100 million in the signing of Aleksandar Pavlovic before deciding to shift their focus to Ayyoub Bouaddi. According to German football expert Christian Falk, in his column for CF Bayern Insider, the English team had discussions regarding the possible transfer of the Bayern Munich defender earlier this year. Pavlovic, 22, stood out at the Bavarian club and, despite Manchester City's interest, chose to remain at the Allianz Arena.
Falk revealed that Manchester City was indeed interested in Pavlovic and may have been willing to pay up to €100 million to secure the player. “It was an exclusive story I can share with you. Manchester City had Aleksandar Pavlović as their number one option for the position,” Falk stated. He mentioned that initial conversations took place in March and that the initial offer was €100 million, which could have been even higher. Despite the interest, Pavlovic requested time to decide and ultimately informed City that he preferred to stay in Munich.
With Pavlovic's decision, Manchester City turned to Bouaddi, a player from Lille, and ended up paying €95 million for him. Falk commented: “If he had said yes, he would have been a Manchester City player by now, so you can see how concrete the interest was.” The change in target reflects City’s determination to strengthen their squad, especially following Rodri's departure, and the signing of Bouaddi appears satisfactory given his high potential.
Fans of the team can see the caliber of the player acquired to help fill the gap left by Rodri, but the interest in Pavlovic raises questions about future movements in the market. If some of the new signings do not meet expectations, it is possible that Manchester City will rekindle their interest in the young defender from Bayern. Thus, the Pavlovic saga may not be completely over, leaving room for speculation about his future in the Premier League.
