Arsenal enters dialogue to sign £60m Lille star Matias Fernandez-Pardo as Julian Alvarez alternative

Arsenal have initiated talks over a potential late transfer swoop for Lille’s breakout star Matias Fernandez-Pardo, positioning themselves as serious contenders alongside Newcastle United in the battle to secure the £60 million-rated Belgian international. Sources close to the player confirm that while Newcastle’s interest has been well documented, Arsenal’s emerging pursuit marks a significant development in the final stages of the summer window.

Fernandez-Pardo, 21, is eager to depart Lille after a stellar rise that has attracted attention from Europe’s elite clubs. However, his hefty valuation has so far stalled concrete progress. Arsenal’s urgency to bolster their attacking options has led them to revisit Fernandez-Pardo as a compelling alternative to Julian Alvarez, whose potential arrival remains uncertain. The Atletico Madrid forward has steadfastly prioritized a move to Barcelona, leaving Arsenal’s pursuit of Fernandez-Pardo as a strategic contingency.

“There’s a dialogue established now as the transfer deadline nears,” a source revealed. “Arsenal could formalize their interest once the Alvarez situation becomes clearer. Mikel Arteta is a big admirer of Fernandez-Pardo’s versatility—he can operate both out wide and up front. The asking price has been a sticking point, but there’s recognition this could be a shrewd long-term investment in a player whose value is expected to soar.”

Despite no official club-to-club negotiations yet, Lille’s openness to offers has increased since Fernandez-Pardo ceased training with the first team, signaling a potential willingness to negotiate. The competition between Arsenal and Newcastle remains intense; insiders suggest Newcastle might currently hold a slight edge, offering the player more guaranteed game time. Yet, Arsenal’s ambitious project and stature in the Premier League could prove irresistible.

With Newcastle having experienced previous transfer setbacks due to late rival interventions, the race for Fernandez-Pardo is far from settled. Arsenal’s calculated patience hinges heavily on the evolving Alvarez transfer saga, while Newcastle stands ready to capitalize on any hesitation.

Matias Fernandez-Pardo’s future is now at a tantalizing crossroads, with Arsenal’s renewed interest injecting fresh drama into what promises to be a high-stakes transfer deadline day showdown.
