Aston Villa Set Sights on Former Bayern Munich Midfield Dynamo Leon Goretzka
Aston Villa have entered advanced discussions to secure the services of Leon Goretzka, the dynamic central midfielder recently released by Bayern Munich. The Premier League club’s pursuit of the 31-year-old German international marks a significant move in their midfield recruitment strategy this summer.
Goretzka, whose contract with Bayern Munich expired at the end of last season, is now a free agent after a prolific spell at the Allianz Arena. Over his eight-year tenure from 2018 to 2026, he amassed an impressive 312 appearances, contributing 51 goals and 53 assists. His experience and versatility have also been proven on the international stage, earning 73 caps for the German national team.
Aston Villa’s interest in Goretzka emerges as a pivot from their earlier pursuit of João Palhinha, Goretzka’s former Bayern teammate. The Portuguese midfielder was initially targeted to strengthen Villa’s midfield but now appears destined for a transfer to Benfica, opening the door for Goretzka’s potential Premier League arrival.
Multiple sources, including talkSPORT, the Daily Mail, and transfer expert Matteo Moretto, have confirmed the ongoing negotiations. If completed, this transfer would provide Aston Villa with a world-class midfield presence known for his powerful runs, tactical intelligence, and goal threat from midfield.
Villa’s pursuit of Goretzka underscores their ambition to bolster their squad with proven European talent capable of influencing matches at the highest level. As talks continue, the Midlands outfit aim to finalize a deal that could significantly enhance their midfield options ahead of the coming campaign.
