Galatasaray endured a humiliating 3-0 defeat at the hands of Venezia FC during their second pre-season friendly, held at Austria’s Hofmann-Personal Stadion. The Turkish champions, aiming to fine-tune their squad ahead of the upcoming campaign, failed to find any rhythm against the Italian side, raising serious concerns about their readiness.
Starting with Jankat Yılmaz in goal, Galatasaray’s lineup featured Eren Elmalı, Kaan Ayhan, Abdulkerim Bardakcı, Arda Unyay, Kazımcan Karataş, Roland Sallai, Lucas Torreira, İlkay Gundogan, Yunus Akgun, and Victor Osimhen. Despite Osimhen’s presence, the team struggled to convert chances, even missing a penalty and rattling the post during the match. These squandered opportunities underscored the team’s inefficiency in front of goal.
The second half saw a rotation as Barıs Alper Yılmaz, Victor Nelsson, Lesley Ugochukwu, Gabriel Sara, and Elias Jelert were brought on, but the changes failed to alter the course of the game. Venezia capitalized on Galatasaray’s defensive vulnerabilities to secure a comprehensive victory, leaving the Turkish champions with much to address before competitive fixtures commence.
Galatasaray will now turn their focus to their next pre-season encounter against Rennes at Rams Park, where they will seek redemption and sharper performances. The heavy defeat to Venezia serves as a stark warning that significant improvements are necessary if the reigning champions are to maintain their domestic and European ambitions.
