Arsenal target Emmanuel Mbemba ends PSG interest with Paris FC transfer

Arsenal’s summer transfer ambitions have taken a significant twist as their £25 million pursuit of a defensive reunion is complicated by injury woes and missed signings. With news emerging that William Saliba could be sidelined for up to five months due to back surgery, Mikel Arteta faces mounting pressure to reinforce his back line ahead of a Premier League title defence.

The urgency for reinforcements has intensified at the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal have already responded to early summer needs by finalising the permanent signing of Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen for £34.5 million, a move largely offset by the sales of Karl Hein, Jakub Kiwior, and Leandro Trossard. Trossard, a key contributor last season, will require a replacement after his timely goals and performances under Arteta.

Attention has now shifted to the centre-back position, with Dinos Mavropanos, West Ham’s standout performer and recently named their Player of the Year, emerging as a leading candidate. Following West Ham’s relegation, Mavropanos is reportedly available for around £25 million. However, Arsenal must navigate competition from Borussia Dortmund and Leeds United, both of whom have also expressed interest in the Greek defender.

Saliba’s situation has become a pressing concern. According to reports from L’Equipe, the French international has been managing persistent back pain with painkillers and was forced off during the first half of his nation’s World Cup semi-final defeat to Spain. The possibility of a lengthy absence leaves Arsenal’s defensive depth thin as Arteta contemplates his options for the upcoming campaign.

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s hopes of securing Paris Saint-Germain talent Emmanuel Mbemba have been dashed. The highly rated 18-year-old defender, who captained PSG’s under-18 side and featured in recent UEFA Youth League campaigns, has opted for a move across the French capital to Paris FC. Mbemba, who can operate as both a left-back and centre-back, rejected advances from both Arsenal and AS Monaco.

Paris FC sporting director Marco Neppe expressed his satisfaction at capturing the versatile defender: “We are delighted that he has chosen our project. Emmanuel is a modern and talented left-footed defender. He already has numerous caps for the French youth national teams. His versatility, playing style, passion, and determination impressed us. We will do everything we can to support him and allow him to develop with the first team. We wish him every success in his new colours.”

As the transfer window heats up, Arsenal’s defensive strategy faces critical challenges, with Arteta forced to consider fresh moves in the market to maintain their title-winning momentum.
