Spain’s captain Rodri has thrown down the gauntlet ahead of the World Cup semi-final in Dallas, boldly declaring that La Roja have the quality and mentality needed to topple tournament favourites France. Addressing the media with unwavering confidence, Rodri made it clear that his team will not be daunted by the stature or recent form of Didier Deschamps’ men.
“France are one of the best teams here, in great form, but so are Spain. We can beat them, we’ve seen that at the Euros and in the Nations League,” Rodri stated, referencing Spain’s recent successes against the French side. His words were not mere bravado; the Spain captain drew on personal experience, recalling pivotal moments when Spain overcame France on the big stage.
Rodri was a key figure in the squad that ousted France in the 2015 Under-19 European Championship semi-final. More recently, he played a vital role as Spain secured victory over France in both the Euro 2024 semi-final and last summer’s Nations League clash. These triumphs, according to Rodri, are proof that Spain possess not only the tactical acumen but also the psychological edge to challenge the reigning giants of international football.
Speaking about Spain’s manager, Rodri emphasised the consistency and vision of Luis de la Fuente, who has been instrumental in shaping the current crop of Spanish talent. “Luis de la Fuente hasn’t changed at all,” Rodri said, describing his long-time coach’s steadfast approach. “That’s where he began to build everything we see now.”
However, the Spanish captain acknowledged the heightened stakes of the upcoming semi-final in Dallas, warning that the World Cup stage brings a different level of intensity. “World Cup matches are a different beast; I don’t think it will be anywhere near as open,” Rodri insisted, suggesting a more tactical and hard-fought encounter awaits both teams.
With tension building and anticipation reaching fever pitch, Rodri’s confident challenge sets the stage for a clash that promises to capture the imagination of football fans worldwide.
