Max Eberl has confirmed that Vincent Kompany has made significant progress in his recovery from meningeal irritation, an inflammation of the membrane surrounding the brain and spinal cord. The head coach has already been discharged from hospital, Eberl revealed ahead of the important meeting between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.

Eberl told Sky Germany that, despite the seriousness of the situation, Kompany’s health is the priority. “We are trying to leave him in peace, but of course we ask a friend, someone who has been through life with us, how he is doing,” said Eberl.

On the date of the coach’s return, Eberl avoided speculation and said it is difficult to predict a specific timeframe. “I think with this illness, it is hard to say whether it will take x days or x weeks,” he added.

Eberl stressed that the most important thing at the moment is Kompany’s progress. “His recovery is moving forward; he is getting better every day. That is what matters most right now. We are simply trying to get through this together, without setting a specific timeframe,” he concluded.

Kompany’s situation has led other Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga coaches to reflect on the demands of the profession, especially after the recent collapse of the Bayern head coach. The health and well-being of coaches are often put to the test, and the case is seen as a warning about the pressure they face.

With Kompany’s recovery the priority, the impact on the team and on the league could be significant. Supporters are waiting for the head coach to return to the dugout as soon as possible.
