Christian Pulisic faces a new setback, being sidelined for an estimated period of three to six weeks after tests confirmed a microfracture sustained during the World Cup. The American international and Milan star saw his physical condition worsen after limping off the pitch during the United States' 4-1 defeat to Belgium in the round of 16, immediately raising concerns about the severity of the injury.
According to multiple reports from the United States and Italy, Pulisic has been diagnosed with a bone contusion and a microfracture in the tibia/fibula area, a situation that forced him to use crutches the following day at the national team's hotel, increasing worries about a potential prolonged absence. Despite the concerning scenario, both The Athletic and Calciomercato report that close sources assure a recovery time of three to six weeks, alleviating fears of an even longer layoff.
The forward has been going through a tough phase, marked by multiple injuries and a drop in performance, both for Milan and the United States national team. His poor form was not reversed during the World Cup, co-hosted by the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, where he again showed physical difficulties and a lack of effectiveness. Last season, Pulisic recorded ten goals and four assists in 34 official matches for Milan, but none of those goals have come in 2026. The drought extends since the 3-0 victory over Verona on December 28, with no goals scored in the last 19 matches played.
If the stoppage period reported by international publications is confirmed, Pulisic could return to training in time for the start of the new Serie A season, scheduled for August 23, when Milan kicks off the competition against Torino. This prospect offers some hope to the player and the club, who are looking to reverse the negative trend of recent months and recover the best version of the North American international.
Pulisic's injury places additional pressure on the Milan squad, which is eagerly awaiting the return of its forward, hoping that the recovery goes smoothly and allows the player to find his scoring touch and good performances right at the start of the next season.
