Arsenal faces a colossal challenge to secure Julian Alvarez: the price may exceed 100 million euros, confirms Diego Simeone. The Gunners’ interest in the Argentine forward is not new, but the amount demanded by Atlético de Madrid promises to further inflame the transfer market this summer.

Julian Alvarez, 26, is a true gem of European football, with an astronomical release clause of 500 million euros. However, the player’s exit in this summer transfer window is expected to be around 100 million euros — an amount that still ensures a profit for Atlético, who purchased him from Manchester City in 2024 for around £64.4 million, potentially rising to £81.5 million with add-ons.

Arsenal’s momentum to strengthen their attack with a player of Alvarez’s caliber is evident. The technical management, led by Mikel Arteta, is precisely looking for this type of versatile, high-level talent to bolster the team, especially at a crucial stage of the season.

On the eve of the first leg of the Champions League semi-final between Arsenal and Atlético de Madrid, Diego Simeone did not shy away from the topic. When asked about the Gunners’ interest, the Argentine coach maintained a firm and realistic stance: “I’m not inside Julian Alvarez’s head. I suppose it’s normal. He’s an extraordinary player. There is interest from Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona, and other teams. But it’s not something that concerns us.”

Alvarez himself, in an interview in March, left the door open for his future: “Maybe yes, maybe no,” he stated, adding enigmatically: “You never know.”

Mikel Arteta, for his part, maintained his usual diplomacy when questioned about a potential signing. “You know I don’t talk about players who are not ours,” he replied, avoiding giving clear hints about the pursuit.

With a contract secured until 2030 and currently valued at around 90 million euros, Julian Alvarez is an indispensable asset in Atlético de Madrid’s squad. This season, the Argentine has already scored 19 goals and provided nine assists in 47 matches, numbers that reinforce his status as a rising star. His stint at Manchester City also left an impressive mark: 36 goals and 19 assists in 103 games.

The race for Julian Alvarez is on and promises to be one of the hottest in the market. Arsenal will need to prepare a multimillion-pound offer to satisfy Atlético and convince the forward to don the Gunners’ jersey. What is at stake is much more than just a simple transfer: it is the opportunity to change the course of the season and strengthen an ambitious team that wants to conquer Europe.
