## Article

Atlético de Madrid beat Levante 2-0 at the Estadi Ciutat de València to go top of LaLiga. The result extends the Rojiblancos’ unbeaten run in all competitions to nine matches.

The visitors started the match slowly. In the 11th minute, a powerful shot from Daniel Requena, from about 15 yards, forced Jan Oblak into a superb save.

## Grimaldo opens the scoring in the 36th minute

After that warning, Diego Simeone’s side began to show more bite. Shortly after the quarter-hour mark, they thought they had taken the lead through [Morten Hjulmand](https://apitofinal.pt/nacional/hjulmand-apresentado-no-atletico-madrid-cumpre-sonho-com-os-colchoneros/), but the goal was ruled out for offside after a VAR review.

As the first half went on, Atlético took control. Mathew Ryan made a crucial save to deny Marcos Llorente the opener. The goal came in the 36th minute, when Alejandro Grimaldo punished a defensive error by Jon Ander Olasagasti to score his fourth league goal of the season.

With the lead at half-time, Atlético maintained their record of conceding only one first-half goal in this LaLiga campaign.

## Giuliano Simeone seals the win

Early in the second half, David Hancko had a goal ruled out for offside. Shortly afterwards, Kang-In Lee came close to scoring, but his powerful shot hit the crossbar.

Atlético were not long in doubling their lead. Giuliano Simeone latched on to a brilliant pass from Alex Baena and finished accurately into the back of the net.

Midway through the second half, after a mistake by Llorente, Levante had a golden chance to pull one back, but Karl Etta Eyong missed an easy shot from just six yards out. It was the last significant chance for the Granotes, and Atlético managed the closing minutes effectively to secure the three points.

Levante were unable to extend their three-match unbeaten run at home and are now 16th, one point above the relegation zone. Atlético, who lead the table, have kept three clean sheets in a row and have conceded just eight goals in 11 matches.
