## Article

Andoni Iraola, the Liverpool manager, lamented the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal at Anfield on Sunday, 1 November, in a Premier League match. Kai Havertz scored the only goal, at the far post, beating goalkeeper Alisson.

Although Liverpool dominated the match, they failed to convert the chances they created. Arsenal regained the lead at the top of the table.

## “We deserved to score”

The Gunners’ win was their first at Anfield in 14 years. Iraola said his side deserved more. “Disappointing for us. We definitely deserved to score, but we didn’t. I regret the first 15 minutes until the goal, but I liked what I saw after that,” the manager told BBC Radio 5 Live.

Iraola highlighted the courage and aggression the team showed after conceding, creating several dangerous situations that did not result in a goal.

## Criticism of the officiating

The manager also criticised the officials’ decisions, above all a possible penalty for Liverpool, for a foul by Jurrien Timber on Alexander Isak. “I think the penalty on Alexander Isak was very clear. Everyone can see how he grabs the shirt. I don’t understand. The shame is that we have to tell our players to go down. It’s so clear and it would have been a great opportunity for us,” Iraola stressed.

On a possible sending-off of an Arsenal player, Iraola said: “I only saw one replay. I think a red card should be a clearer action. It didn’t look like a clear red card, no.”

## Positives, but no points

Despite the defeat, the manager sees positives in the team’s performance, although he acknowledges it is not enough against top opponents. “We had very good chances inside the box that we didn’t end up converting, but I value a lot how we played after 1-0,” he added.

Iraola acknowledged that it is hard to talk about momentum after a defeat, especially after five wins in a row. “This game was important for us and it is heartbreaking,” he concluded.
