Harry Kane provided two assists as Bayern Munich beat Mainz in the Bundesliga. The result leaves the Bavarians level with Borussia Dortmund on 21 points, but they top the table on goal difference.

The England striker, who recently won the [Ballon d’Or](https://apitofinal.pt/internacional/kane-vence-ballon-dor-a-mbappe-por-28-pontos-de-diferenca/), set up Joshua Kimmich and Lennart Karl. With those assists, Kane has eight for the season, which makes him the outright leader in the Bundesliga.

He needs just one more assist to equal his best tally of nine, achieved in the 2024-25 season. He is also on course to surpass his personal best of 14 assists in a Premier League season, which he set while playing for Tottenham in 2020-21.

## Kimmich opens the scoring after 14 minutes

The match began with Kimmich opening the scoring after 14 minutes. Following a mistake by Mainz defender Danny da Costa, who failed to control a pass from Lee Jae-sung, Kane pounced on the loose ball and set up Kimmich, who struck powerfully from the edge of the box into the net.

Mainz thought they had levelled when Lee scored with a header from a free kick, but the VAR ruled the goal out for offside after a lengthy check.

## Neuer injured and Karl makes it 2-0

Manuel Neuer, who became Bayern’s oldest ever Bundesliga player at 40 years and 225 days, had to be substituted with an injury shortly after the incident.

Bayern were quick to extend their lead, with Kane setting up Karl, who made it 2-0 a few minutes before half-time with a shot from a tight angle.

Kane’s second assist makes him the player with the most assists after the first nine matchdays of a Bundesliga season since Opta began collecting data in 2004-05.

Mainz did pull one back in the closing minutes, with Phillip Tietz heading in from a Benedict Hollerbach cross, but Bayern held on to secure the three points.
