Liam Delap prefers premier league move but faces limited options as Newcastle and Everton hesitate

Liam Delap Faces Premier League Exit Uncertainty as European Options Loom

Chelsea’s £30 million signing Liam Delap is caught in a precarious position this summer, with his preferred move within the Premier League looking increasingly unlikely. The young striker, who joined from Ipswich just a year ago, endured a disastrous debut campaign at Stamford Bridge, prompting the Blues to seek alternatives ahead of the new season.

After a summer marked by heavy investment and several strategic player sales, Chelsea’s focus has shifted to loaning out promising youngsters. Delap, however, remains a priority for the club to offload. The recent arrival of Danny Welbeck, expected to serve as backup to first-choice forward Joao Pedro, further diminishes Delap’s prospects at Chelsea.

Interest from Premier League clubs Newcastle United and Everton was speculated earlier in the transfer window, but no concrete offers have emerged. According to a report from TalkSport, Delap is reluctant to move abroad, preferring to remain in England rather than accept a continental switch. Despite this preference, the lack of viable Premier League suitors leaves him with limited options.

One potential destination is Como, an Italian club reportedly interested in securing Delap on loan. While such a move would allow Chelsea to remove the striker from their wage bill and give him a chance to rebuild his market value, Delap faces the challenge of adapting to life outside England. Accepting a loan deal to Como may be his best realistic option, offering regular playing time and a fresh start without a long-term commitment to European football.

Chelsea’s priority remains clear: find a new home for Delap this summer to clear the path for their revamped attacking lineup. For the striker, the choice is stark—remain sidelined at Stamford Bridge or venture abroad to reignite his stalled career. As things stand, the Premier League door appears firmly shut, forcing Delap to consider a move he had hoped to avoid.
