Newcastle United is intensifying its interest in young Italian defender Giorgio Scalvini from Atalanta, according to reports from Italy. The [Premier League](https://apitofinal.pt/en/?p=679432) team has reportedly contacted the player's representatives in an attempt to explore the possibility of a deal, although it has not yet established communication with the Italian club.

As revealed by Sky Sport Italia's Gianluca Di Marzio, Newcastle has renewed its interest in Scalvini, a center-back who has already made a name for himself in [Serie A](https://apitofinal.pt/en/internacional-en/juventus-wants-to-finalize-a-deal-in-the-style-of-rashford-for-zirkzee/). The player is under contract with Atalanta until the summer of 2028 and has recently switched agents, now being represented by Ali Barat of Epic Sports after previously being with Tulio Tinti of TMP [Soccer](https://apitofinal.pt/en/internacional-en/robert-lewandowski-scores-two-goals-in-chicago-fire-s-victory-in-mls/). At present, Atalanta values Scalvini at around €40 million, a figure that Newcastle is considering, especially after having attempted to sign him last summer.

Since his debut in the senior team, Scalvini has accumulated impressive experience, with 137 competitive matches, of which 113 were in the Italian league. The defender made his debut for the Italian national team at the age of 19, establishing himself as one of the brightest prospects in his position. However, his progress suffered a significant setback due to a serious injury, a torn cruciate ligament, which occurred at the end of the 2023-24 season. Since that injury, Scalvini has faced various physical challenges, limiting him to just six appearances in [Serie A](https://apitofinal.pt/en/?p=679243) in the 2024-25 season and 24 in 2025-26.

The expectation now is to see how Newcastle will proceed in the coming weeks, particularly if they will formalize a proposal to Atalanta. The addition of Scalvini to the Magpies' squad could not only strengthen the team's defense but also signal the club's ambition to reinforce itself with quality young talents, in an attempt to consolidate its position in the [Premier League](https://apitofinal.pt/en/?p=679223). The unfolding of this situation will be crucial for Scalvini's future and for Newcastle's recruitment strategy.
