The latest edition of the [Cognizant Classic](https://apitofinal.pt/modalidades/golf/paige-spiranac-comenta-a-polemica-de-shane-lowry-apos-desaire-no-cognizant-classic/), held from February 26 to March 1, 2026, left many golf fans in shock. With a fierce competition and a field full of stars, including Brooks Koepka and Shane Lowry, the tournament promised a lot, but some of the favorites failed to meet expectations. Nico Echavarria surprisingly took home the trophy, but attention shifted to the golfers who could not shine. Among them was [Michael Thorbjornsen](https://apitofinal.pt/modalidades/golf/jogadores-confirmados-para-o-arnold-palmer-invitational-2026-lista-final-revelada/), who, despite being considered one of the big names in the competition, failed to advance beyond the first round.

Thorbjornsen’s statements reflect his disappointment: “Things didn’t go as planned. I expected a much better performance, but the game just didn’t flow for me.” With odds of +2200, he was seen as a strong contender for victory but ended up exiting the competition after rounds of 72 and 71, missing the cut.

But Thorbjornsen was not the only one to disappoint. The list of the five golfers who underperformed in the event is revealing.

The second name to highlight is Christiaan Bezuidenhout. With odds of +4000, the South African failed to meet expectations and finished in 37th place. His performance started promisingly, but a sequence of rounds of 71, 70, and two 69s left him stuck at 5 under par, far from what was expected of him.

Aaron Rai, a player who started the tournament with high hopes and odds of +3300, also delivered a performance below expectations. After an opening round of 68, he followed up with scores of 69, 69, and 71, finishing in 23rd place. Despite his talent, Rai couldn’t find the rhythm needed to shine at the event.

Daniel Berger, another prominent name, had a similar journey. With odds of +2700, Berger started strong with a round of 67, but lost momentum in the following rounds, finishing in 32nd place with a total of 6 under par, after rounds of 71, 71, and 69.

Lastly, Max McGreevy, who entered the competition with odds of +3500, also fell short of expectations. After an opening round of 68, he struggled to maintain his performance in the subsequent rounds, finishing in 40th place with a total of 4 under par.

The Cognizant Classic 2026 brought not only victories but also hard lessons for those who failed to showcase their true potential. For the golfers mentioned, the focus now will be on learning from this experience and coming back stronger in future competitions.
