Carlos Alcaraz eagerly embraces the Laver Cup experience, describing it as a vital boost to rediscover his passion for tennis following a lengthy injury hiatus. The Spanish star, sidelined for four and a half months before making his comeback at the US Open, expressed his excitement to represent Team Europe in London, a city he holds in high regard.

“This is a special event for me. I missed it a lot,” Alcaraz stated ahead of the tournament. “I will do my best to help the team as much as possible.” The Laver Cup stands out for the unique camaraderie it fosters, transforming typical rivals into teammates and mentors. “Usually, these guys are my opponents throughout the year,” he explained with a smile. “Here, sometimes they become my coaches, and that’s fantastic. I always say you see tennis much better from the outside. So when they give me advice, I try to follow it and do everything they tell me.”

Alcaraz emphasized the collective leadership within Team Europe, rejecting the notion of a single leader. “Every team should have a leader, but I think we have more than one,” he said. “We are not used to playing team competitions during the year. For me, I love these tournaments, spending time with them, and having fun. As you saw last year, I really enjoyed myself both on and off the court.”

Highlighting the restorative power of the event, Alcaraz revealed how the Laver Cup helps reignite his love for the game. “This week, I could be training or resting, but days like these help me find joy on the court again, the pleasure of playing tennis,” he shared. “It helps me a lot ahead of upcoming tournaments, which are not team events. I just try to enjoy this week to the fullest and get to know the players better off the court. It’s a privilege I truly enjoy.”

Adding a touch of humor, Alcaraz addressed his evolving image, joking about teammate Alexander Zverev’s persistent encouragement to adopt a ponytail hairstyle. “Zverev keeps trying to convince me to tie my hair back every day,” he laughed. “I don’t know if I’ll get there, but I’ll figure it out later.”

Alcaraz’s enthusiasm and openness underscore the Laver Cup’s role not only as a competitive platform but also as a rejuvenating and unifying occasion for tennis’s brightest talents.
