Daniil Medvedev, the Russian tennis prodigy, is determined to rise even further on the sports scene, and he knows that to conquer the biggest tournaments, he will have to overcome the current stars: Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. After an impressive run at the Masters 1000 in Indian Wells, where he eliminated Alcaraz before facing Sinner, Medvedev shared his thoughts on what it takes to triumph against these elite players.

“When I lose, nothing matters, there’s no taste of victory. It’s true that I played well, and that might give me a boost for the next tournament. But, at 27, the situation is different. A 20-year-old who plays well against Sinner might see that as great motivation for the future. For me, the need is to win, and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t,” Medvedev revealed in an interview with Bolshe. The Russian is aware that the challenges ahead of him are monumental, but he is ready to face them head-on.

Medvedev has been reflecting a lot on his recent performances and the comparisons with Alcaraz and Sinner. “If we look at my recent matches, I’m close enough to compete. I may have done some things better than Carlos, but in relation to Jannik, he has really been at a higher level. For example, I served better than Alcaraz, but Sinner was unbeatable on serve, surpassing not just me but any other opponent I faced this year,” the Russian analyzed.

The struggle for consistency is one of the points Medvedev emphasizes. “I maintained the rallies well, but Sinner’s serving quality is exhausting. They are more consistent, playing at a high level throughout the year. I, on the other hand, have more fluctuations in my performance. I’ve always said that to win, I need to play my best, while those two can be a little below their maximum level. Carlos wasn’t at his peak, but that’s common; they show their best much more often in the season than I do,” he explained.

What Medvedev highlights is the need for constant adaptation and evolution in the sport. He is aware that the path to success is arduous and that every detail can make a difference. With his focus on the upcoming challenges, the Russian tennis player is determined to turn his reflections into effectiveness on the court, aiming to win not only tournaments but also the respect and admiration that come with victories over the best. The battle for the throne of world tennis continues, and Medvedev is more than ready for the fight.
