“When I lose, nothing matters, there’s no taste of victory. It’s true that I played well, and that might give me a boost for the next tournament. But, at 27, the situation is different. A 20-year-old who plays well against Sinner might see that as great motivation for the future. For me, the need is to win, and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t,” Medvedev revealed in an interview with Bolshe. Medvedev has been reflecting a lot on his recent performances and the comparisons with Alcaraz and Sinner. “If we look at my recent matches, I’m close enough to compete. I may have done some things better than Carlos, but in relation to Jannik, he has really been at a higher level. For example, I served better than Alcaraz, but Sinner was unbeatable on serve, surpassing not just me but any other opponent I faced this year,” the Russian analyzed.

The struggle for consistency is one of the points Medvedev emphasizes. “I maintained the rallies well, but Sinner’s serving quality is exhausting. They are more consistent, playing at a high level throughout the year. I, on the other hand, have more fluctuations in my performance. I’ve always said that to win, I need to play my best, while those two can be a little below their maximum level. Carlos wasn’t at his peak, but that’s common; they show their best much more often in the season than I do,” he explained.
