Benfica leads the list of clubs with the most valuable players in Portugal.

A recent study conducted by the CIES Football Observatory has revealed surprising data about the value of Portuguese clubs, placing Benfica at the forefront in terms of assets. The club from Luz not only stands out nationally but also shines on the international stage, ranking 27th on a comprehensive list that includes 70 leagues from around the world. With a total valuation of an impressive 549 million euros, Benfica demonstrates an average of 14.4 million euros per player, with forward Vangelis Pavlidis highlighted as the most valuable asset in the squad, valued at nearly 60 million euros.

Benfica’s rivals, FC Porto and Sporting, also present robust numbers but fail to match the value of the Eagles. FC Porto, with assets valued at 513 million euros, ranks 30th on the global list but boasts a higher average of 15.1 million euros per player. Young talent Samu is considered the biggest “gem” of the Porto squad, valued at 79 million euros.

Following closely, Sporting presents a valuation of 474 million euros and an average of 12.2 million euros per player. Their most valuable asset, Luis Suárez, is valued at 45.5 million euros. This landscape reveals not only the competitiveness among the three giants of Portugal but also the clubs’ ability to enhance their players’ market value.

In the global ranking, Chelsea reigns supreme with an astonishing value of €1.732 billion, closely followed by other giants such as Manchester City and Real Madrid, both of which also surpass the €1 billion mark. Chelsea’s standout player is Estêvão Willian, valued at €123 million, reflecting the strength of the London club in attracting talent.

This study underscores the importance of investment in player development and valuation, revealing a constantly evolving landscape in European football. Benfica, with its leadership, marks a significant step, but the battle for the top among the major Portuguese clubs promises to be fierce in the coming years.
