Aryna Sabalenka, the unstoppable force of women’s tennis, surprised the world by announcing her withdrawal from the coveted Stuttgart Open 2026. The news hit the circuit like a bombshell, especially after her impressive Sunshine Double victory, where she dominated Indian Wells and the Miami Open. But a mysterious injury, sustained during the victorious marathon in Miami, forces the Belarusian star to postpone the start of her clay season. What is really happening with Sabalenka? Find out everything here!
Sabalenka, who has already become an irreplaceable figure on the circuit, was riding high after defeating Elena Rybakina and Coco Gauff in two epic finals. The Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, set to kick off on 15 April, seemed the ideal stage to continue her ascent. However, the tennis player revealed, through an emotional statement on social media, that she will not be present due to insufficient recovery from the injury suffered after Miami.
“Hello Stuttgart. It is with great sadness that I announce I will not be able to play at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix this year. I always love returning to Stuttgart. The atmosphere, the fans, the support… they are very special to me. And of course, I was really looking forward to another opportunity to fight for the Porsche,” wrote Sabalenka, expressing heartfelt regret to the fans who were hoping to see her in action.
The player added: “Unfortunately, I suffered an injury after Miami and, despite trying everything to recover in time, I am not ready to compete. I am very sorry to miss this incredible tournament. I wish everyone a great week in Stuttgart and hope to see you very soon.”
Curiously, despite five appearances at the Stuttgart tournament, Sabalenka has never managed to triumph, having lost in the finals on four occasions. This tournament seemed to be an opportunity to reverse that trend, but fate has other plans.
Still in the chapter of curiosities of her season, Sabalenka’s coach, Stacy, revealed a curious episode about the absence of celebrations after the victory at Indian Wells. “Basically, we were relaxing, there was no big party. We had some snacks, nothing special. It was crazy, it felt like the plane was losing control with our euphoria, we were jumping and dancing so much that even the martini glasses were flying around the cabin,” Stacy recounted on the Big T Podcast.
“In our reality, sometimes there isn’t much time to celebrate. We try to enjoy those moments, but in truth, after the stadium, we rushed home, grabbed our bags and dashed to the airport – a real adventure to get back,” she added.
With her absence confirmed in Stuttgart, Aryna Sabalenka is now preparing to make her competitive return at the Madrid Open, which begins on 21 April. Her recovery and return are eagerly anticipated, as the current world number 1 promises to continue to set the clay season alight.
The injury that kept her out of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix may be a temporary setback, but the Belarusian tennis player has already proven she is made to withstand pressure and come back stronger. The tennis world eagerly awaits to see if Sabalenka will shine again in Madrid and resume her pursuit of the biggest trophies in the world elite. Stay tuned, because this saga is far from over!
