João Félix broke his silence and left Portugal on alert: the forward claims he is experiencing the best moment of his career and asks for confidence from fans ahead of the decisive clash with Croatia. In a press conference filled with intensity and emotion, the Portuguese international opened up about his relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo, the atmosphere within the national team, and the composure needed to score penalties, following a draw that left many Portuguese wary of the Selecção das Quinas.

In the lead-up to the Round of 16 of the World Cup in Palm Beach, João Félix, 26, took on the role of spokesperson for the team, analyzing the recent draw against Colombia and projecting the do-or-die match against Croatia. “It was a complicated game, as we already knew it would be. Colombia is not a weak team; everyone knows the individual and collective quality they possess. I think we got a bit caught up in their game, which was very much about transitions, and we had little control of the match,” Félix admitted, emphasizing that the team is focused on correcting mistakes: “Today we will analyze the game and what needs to be improved, see what we could have done better, correct some errors, and look, look and improve, that’s what we can do.”

The draw against Colombia raised doubts and distrust among the Portuguese, but Félix sent a clear and combative message to the nation. “What I can say and promise is work, dedication, that you can be calm. The team here is calm; it’s not because we’ve drawn two games that there is distrust or that we are less confident. It’s a World Cup, all games are complicated, even the teams that people think might be easier or not, end up becoming complicated. And we just have to stay calm, just like we are, prepared for the game against Croatia. We have a lot of confidence that we will win and we will do everything to advance to the next phase,” assured the forward, in an attempt to calm the spirits and restore the faith of the fans.

Croatia, a formidable opponent against whom Félix has never scored, now emerges as the major obstacle in Portugal’s path. The player expresses confidence and sees advantages in facing a European team. “Yes, we know Croatia well; we have played against them numerous times. I have also played against them many times, even in this era of Mister Roberto Martínez; we have faced them a few times. We know what to expect from them, we know what we have to do. And I even think it is an advantage to play against them because they are a European team. We are used to seeing them play, we have played against them, so we are well aware of their strengths and skills,” he analyzed, leaving room for humor by joking with streamer Move_Mind: “If I score while Move [streamer Move_Mind] is on the side of the goal we are attacking, I will definitely steal his wig and put it on [laughs]. Let’s hope that happens.”

Regarding possible changes to the starting eleven, Félix delegates the responsibility to the coach but assures total unity within the group: “That’s up to the coach to decide. From the first to the second game there were changes, and it went well. It seemed everything was fine, everything was perfect. Now in this third game we weren’t as good as in the second, but I also don’t think we were bad. And if there are changes to be made, that’s up to the coach to analyze, and he is the one who makes the final decision. And whoever is in the starting eleven, I believe they will meet expectations. Especially since the guys who have come in have helped a lot. And whoever is in the starting eleven will help, and if someone comes off, those who come in will respond the same way. We are confident; that’s the only way we can go far. We are all well prepared, ready to help, and that has to be everyone’s mentality.”

Félix also confronted the bitter memories of the European Championship, when a shot hitting the post led to Portugal’s elimination against France. Despite this, the athlete presents himself as mentally stronger and ready to take on responsibilities during penalties or at any decisive moment. “Since I was a child,” he began, emphasizing that the scars of the past now serve as fuel for personal and collective overcoming.

The clash with Croatia is, therefore, a true test of the character and ambition of Félix’s generation. The result could determine not only Portugal’s continuation in the World Cup but also the future of several members of the squad and, who knows, the coach himself. The pressure is intense, and every detail could make the difference between glory and disappointment. The eyes of the nation are on this team, which promises not to give up and to fight until the end. It remains to be seen if that will be enough to restore confidence and reignite the Portuguese dream of conquering the world.
